Art Therapy

The benefits of being creative have been known for some time, and it is enjoyed around the world. Being able to switch off the logical side of the brain can reduce stress and anxiety, and help us feel calmer and more focused. Art Therapy is based on this principle, and is regarded as an effective type of psychotherapy. We can express what we are feeling internally without fear of judgement, or repercussions.

Art therapy can involve a range of activities such as drawing, painting, or sculpture. It is suitable for any age, and any ability. The objective is to relax, and find comfort in creating something that reflects how you feel inside. It can help to get in touch with our inner self, and understand more about our identity. It can be used to help deal with many different issues such as grief, depression, chronic illness or addiction.

Pet Therapy

Owning a pet has many benefits. You always have someone who is happy to see you come home. If you need a pick me up they can give you a cuddle. And of course stroking an animal can feel very relaxing, wether it's a cat, dog, or even a spider.
Some people do not have the chance to own an animal, and this is where animal-assisted therapy comes in. It has been shown that animals can be very therapeutic for a range of reasons. They can elevate the mood of elderly people who are lonely, or help people with mental illnesses such as Alzheimer's.

Guide dogs are an example of animals being used to help a specific illness: blindness. Dogs in particular have been used in the past for a range of purposes, for example they can even be trained to warn if someone is having an epileptic fit.

Colour Therapy

Colour therapy, or chromotherapy, is based on the idea that different colours can evoke different moods and can be used to affect our mental and physical wellbeing. Attaching meanings to colours can be traced back a long way all over the world. In Egypt, healers wore blue breastplates to signify their sacredness. In Greece, gold clothes signified holiness.
Each colour has a different wavelength, and therefore its own particular energy: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The human body has 7 different chakras or energy centres, and to have a sense of wellbeing they need to be balanced. If they are not, colour therapy can be used to rebalance/stimulate certain energies.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a type of alternative medicine in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility during which positive suggestions and guided imagery are used to help individuals deal with a variety of concerns and issues.
Liz Rotherham is a clinically trained Hypnotherapist and part of the Complementary Medical association, who is run by qualified practitioners all passionate about helping others.

Sessions can be delivered either online or face to face and donations are to the Heads2minds charity.

Hypnotherapy is one of the safest, quickest and most effective forms of treatment for the majority of psychological and emotional challenges. Positive aspects of hypnosis include a much more profound level of relaxation with a reduction in stress levels.

"Hypnotherapy was one of the therapies that helped me address my confidence and overcome the fear of public speaking. It also really helped me give up smoking and reduce anxiety levels. It's all about empowering people by giving them the necessary skills and tools to move forward in their lives. Helping people reduce negative behaviours including addictions, excessive drinking, sugar, poor eating and sleepless nights and improving confidence and self esteem." Liz Rotherham

The therapy gets to the root of the problem and helps the person to relax in a safe environment either at home online or within a safe place located in the Colchester area in Essex.

All initial sessions are free and include a health and wellbeing consultation to enable us to offer you a bespoke session.
