Remember, Remember: A Safe and Joyful Bonfire Night for All

As the year winds down and winter approaches, we look forward to our annual tradition of coming together on a chilly evening. We all bundle up in warm coats, hats, and scarves, and slip on our trusty wellies to brave the damp and muddy ground as we make our way to the fireworks display. The excitement builds as we wait for the first burst of color and sound to light up the night sky, and we cheer and gasp in wonder as the show unfolds before us. It's a magical moment that brings us all together and reminds us of the joy and wonder of life.

However there are some tups and tricks to help keep you safe this Novemeber

  • Firework Safety: When handling fireworks, follow safety guidelines closely. Always purchase fireworks from reputable sources and use them in a clear, open area. Have a designated adult in charge of lighting fireworks, and keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby for emergencies.

  • Bonfire Safety: If you're hosting a bonfire, ensure it's a safe distance from buildings, trees, and other flammable materials. Never use accelerants like gasoline to start a bonfire, and keep a watchful eye to prevent the fire from getting out of control.

  • Keep a Safe Distance: Maintain a safe distance from both fireworks and bonfires. Follow the recommended viewing distance for fireworks, typically at least 25 meters away. Avoid getting too close to the bonfire, as sparks and embers can pose a danger.



  • Pet Safety: Bonfire Night can be distressing for pets. Keep your pets indoors during fireworks displays to reduce their stress. Create a quiet, comfortable space for them to retreat to, and consider using calming methods like soothing music or pet anxiety wraps.

  • Respect the Environment: After the festivities, clean up thoroughly and responsibly. Dispose of fireworks and debris safely, and be mindful of the environment by not leaving litter or harming wildlife.

Fireworks can be a source of great anxiety and distress for animals. The loud noises and flashes of light can make them feel threatened and scared. It's important to take precautions to keep your pets safe during fireworks displays. Here are some tips that you can follow to help protect your animal friends:


  • Keep your pets indoors: Try to keep your pets inside during fireworks displays. Keep the windows, curtains, and doors closed to reduce the noise and light.

  • Create a safe space: Create a safe and comfortable space for your pets to retreat to. This can be a room with a comfortable bed, toys, and blankets. You can also play calming music to help them relax.

  • Provide distractions: Give your pets something to do during the fireworks display. Provide them with toys, puzzles, or food puzzles to keep them occupied.

  • Keep identification on your pets: Make sure your pets are wearing identification tags with your contact information. This will help you reunite with your pet in case they run away.
